Alpine Huts Experience

Laugenalm

Laugenalm

The Laugenalm is located at an altitude of 1853 meters south of Laugenspitze on a beautiful alpine meadow with a stunning view. It is a popular hiking destination and offers a cozy place to stop for refreshments. It is also a very nice destination for families, as many animals can be observed on the alpine pasture.

Starting point at Gampenpass (Hiking trail 10A – 1.5 hours) or directly from Residence Waldrelax (about 2 hours).

Felixer Alm

Felixer Alm and Pond

The Felixer Pond or Tretsee (Lago di Tret) is situated in the Nonstaler Alps, at the point where South Tyrol and the Italian-speaking Trentino meet. The 3.84-hectare pond appears already in the Atlas Tyrolensis from the 18th century. Back then, it was unnamed, but later became known as Felixer Weiher, and eventually also as Tretsee (Italian: Lago di Tret), after residents of the nearby Trientner village Tret Grund purchased land around the pond.

The Felixer Pond can be reached via various hiking trails. Starting in St. Felix, trail no. 9 leads through beautiful forests and larch meadows to the lake. Especially in midsummer, you can cool off wonderfully with a jump into the water. The water temperature can reach up to 25°C here at 1,604 meters above sea level. The 3-4 meter deep lake, with its small island, has been protected as a nature reserve by the South Tyrolean provincial government. The habitat shows strong growth of aquatic plants, which is monitored 1-2 times a year. Fish such as roach, dragonflies, amphibians, butterflies, and bumblebees live in and around the lake. Fishing is possible here with day tickets.

Light forests, gentle meadows, simple trails, and excellent forest roads make it suitable even for reasonably capable strollers. Additionally, close to the popular Felixer Weiher, also called Tretsee, which offers a welcome cool-down on hot summer days. The Felixer Alm, situated just above 1600 meters, combines all the advantages of an alpine hut in a natural landscape and also offers swimming fun and traditional local cuisine.

Laureiner Alm

Laureineralm

The Laureiner Alm (1777 m) is open from June to October and offers South Tyrolean cuisine and homemade cakes. There are plenty of outdoor seating options with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains and landscape.

The hut can be reached directly from our residence via Proveisersteig trail no. 5, or from the Ultental. For this, turn left shortly after St. Pankraz and continue towards Proveis. Then, you can park at Hofmahdjoch parking lot beside a tunnel and hike from there to the hut.

From Laureiner Alm, it’s perfect for hiking to the other huts of the Maddalene group. These trails are mostly flat and suitable for families. They also offer a stunning panoramic view.

Malga Castrin

Malga Castrin

Malga Castrin rises upstream from the village of Castelfondo at an altitude of 1,785 m. It is located above the meadows known as “Sous,” which provide hay for the animals. The alpine hut is a popular excursion destination both in summer and winter, as it is connected to the other huts in the area by the Maddalene Alpine Hut Loop. From here, Laureiner Alm and Malga Cloz can be reached easily. In addition, the peaks Cornicoletto and Luco can be accessed from the hut.

The starting point for the hike is the Hofmahdjoch parking area.

Malga di Cloz

Malga di Cloz

The Cloz alpine hut is the first hut you encounter when taking the forest path that leads up from the Hofmahd parking area. It is situated at an altitude of 1,732 meters. The hut offers excellent cuisine made exclusively with local ingredients produced on the alpine pasture. For dinner, and generally for groups of more than 10 people, a reservation is required.

In summer, the sales point is also open, where cheese and other dairy products can be purchased. From the Cloz alpine hut, many excursions can be undertaken to the other huts of the Maddalene Mountains or to the beautiful peaks surrounding the hut, such as Kornigl, Schöngrub Peak, and Ultner Hochwart.

Malga Revé

Malga di Revó

The Revò alpine hut is located at 1,734 meters along the well-known circular hiking route of the high pastures in the Maddalene Mountains. It is situated halfway between the Cloz and Kessel alpine huts. The hut is managed by Peter, and his kitchen offers typical South Tyrolean dishes for lunch and snacks.

Untere Kesselalm

Untere Kesselalm

The Untere Kessel Alm is located at 1,917 meters along the well-known circular hiking route of the high pastures in the Maddalene Mountains. It is a wooden building situated at the foot of the Ultner Hochwart. From the Hofmand parking area, Kesselalm can be reached on foot in about 45 minutes.
